Although many consider the engagement ring and wedding band the symbol of marriage, there is another kind of ring that’s just as sentimental and emblematic. Eternity rings, which are typically given to a boo on a special occasion such as a milestone anniversary, are becoming the popular choices for engagement rings.  Originated by the ancient Egyptians, eternity rings were given as a symbol of endless love between spouses. Today these rings still carry the same meaning and are still used as markers of significant milestones in a couple’s relationship; however, now the are also being given as a sign of engagement.

Much like engagement rings, eternity rings are available in a variety of designs, cuts, and stones.  Modern eternity rings are cool and minimal with several small diamonds or gemstones like rubies, sapphires, and emeralds mounted on a metal band. The classic eternity ring style, which consists of a snake swallowing its tail, are reemerging with a vintage appeal as contemporary brides and brides-to-be are sporting altered versions of this antiquated piece. Because of their distinction and versatility, eternity rings are becoming a hit among engaged couples.

Say ‘Adios’ to the bland wedding band!  Couples looking for a unique way to display their marital bond are choosing the eternity ring over the common, simple wedding band. This trend, however, is nothing new. Celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn not only sported eternity rings instead of drab wedding bands, they even wore their eternity rings in place of the customary engagement ring. Today’s eternity rings come in a few different styles, including the half eternity ring or full eternity ring (hello lover!), claw set or channel set, and incorporate diamonds and/or gemstones. Besides these designs and cuts, dazzling eternity rings have been crafted in a range of different metals, which can be worn as a wedding band with an engagement ring or stacked in a set with other eternity rings.  Stack em up, Stack em up.  I’d love to wear a simple diamond one on my pinky.

Trendy couples are putting their own spin on the eternity ring by using the traditional serpent eternity ring style to illustrate their never-ending love for each other. The typical, classic serpent eternity ring consists of a single snake either wrapped around itself or of the serpent eating its tail, and gemstones such as garnets and emeralds are embedded in the eyes of the snake. This vintage style has been revised to include an assortment of stones and diamonds entwined with multiple snakes. Additional embellishments, such as the use of rose gold and platinum as opposed to the traditional yellow gold, are also a prominent eternity ring style. Unlike other eternity rings, the serpent eternity ring is more often used to celebrate a notable event for a couple such as a major anniversary or as a push present. However, the on trend soon-to-be married couples are now using serpent rings as their engagement ring or wedding band.
